Dance Visions
under the direction of Beth
Jucovy grew out of a group of innovative, versatile, professional
dancers who began collaborating in 1989. In 1990, we adopted the name
Dance Visions. The identity of the group was shaped by the unique
sharing of creative ideas and the versatile dancing of its performers.
We have performed works of various contemporary choreographers as well
as the great dance pioneers, particularly Isadora Duncan and Anna
Sokolow. In the past the company worked with Julia Levien and Hortense
Kooluris, considered by many to be the closest links to Duncan and her
art form, as well as with Anna Sokolow.
Our mission is to expose people to the
joy, the scope, and the richness of dance as a vital and living art. We
want to preserve dance works of the past as authentically as possible,
and we also wish to explore the vast possibilities that have been opened
to choreographers of today. We would like to continue to
bring this rich and timely art to the local public and beyond.
Although our company has
changed in repertoire and personnel since 1990, the present company has
evolved into a cohesive group, true to our original idea of
collaboration and versatility. We build upon each other's creativity,
strengths and sensibilities. We aspire to carry the "visions" of the
dance pioneers into the creative works of the present
Our contemporary
pieces include a large range of styles, timely and innovative, enticing
and thought-provoking. Current Dance Visions dancers include
