The Divine Flame

The Divine Flame is a multi-disciplinary program about the life, times, inspirations, and dance of Isadora Duncan. Dance Visions, with Julia Levien, third-generation Duncan dancer, as artistic adviser, has recreated the authentic Duncan dances to the music of Chopin, Schubert, Brahms, Gluck, and Scriabin. Featured in this acclaimed program about Isadora's life and art are actress and television personality Shirley Romaine as narrator; Duncan dancers Beth Jucovy and Adrienne Ramm, who have been immersed in the Duncan tradition since childhood; dancers Chelsea Koenig, and Nicole Piacenza; with classical pianist Mark Fiedler and soprano Patti Dunham. Also included in the program are slides of Isadora and the art that inspired her.

Isadora Duncan was a divine flame. Her name evokes images of grace, passion, and defiance. She was a great dancer who changed the direction of her entire art. The mother of modern dance, she was a pioneering feminist and one of the first international superstars. The originality of her art characterized her life, which was restless and exciting, triumphant and tragic. This program brings together her story, her dances, and music to create a fascinating theater piece.
