Dance Visions
"Dreamscape" is a new multi-media contemporary dance work
created by Beth Jucovy. This unique dance/theater piece
depicts glimpses into the dream-state. It is a light-hearted
and exciting look into the bizarre world of dreams. Classical
dance gymnastics, ,
modern dance, popular dance, hip-hop, and even tap are fused
into this delightful and creative "Night's Journey".
The program begins with the sometimes difficult
transition from wakefulness to sleep. After this is
accomplished, we look into the mind as we visit the
dream-state. The dreams emerge from the objects and sounds
that are in our sleep surroundings. The objects and shadows,
as well as the sounds inspire each dreamlike dance vignette.
The vignettes connect
as in dreams, one innocuous thing can lead to another entire
narrative. Special lighting, sound effects and slide
projection are included in this multi-media program.
The performance includes nine Dance Visions dancers,
narrator Shirley Romaine, a
child dancer/actor and eclectic musical selections including
original compositions by composers Paul Joseph and Adrienne
Ramm. Technical support by James Packard.
Originally commissioned by the Long Island Children's
Museum, this delightful program was also performed at the Long
Island Fringe Festival at Post University on Sept. 25. The Alice series from Dreamscape
will be at the HACTH on Oct. 23 at 8:00. 131 W 24th St. NYC For tickets and info 212 691 3803
